Let’s talk about 2025

Our last post was took stock of 2024 and our achievements (yours too!). Now the tinsel and knitted stockings have been packed away, it’s time to have a think of our hopes for 2025. I don’t like to say plans because it feels prescribed and a set up to fail because things seldom go to plan.

Please do share your hopes for the new year with us; we’d love to hear them.

  • Continue to buy far less craft supplies and complete the projects I have in.
  • To finally have a go at Intarsia. I bought a pattern from Yarndale that I loved, but it requires intarsia, so 2025 is the time. I do need yarn for it, so am I already failing at number 1?
  • Very exciting stuff, I am going to South Korea and Japan to immerse myself in their textiles and hobbies. This will be my first long haul flight.
  • In 2023 my goal for ‘next year’ was to have a go at drawing. I had had a go once this year; it was also not as easy as following the step-by-step book. I know some of you can relate, I feel I need to get my yarn stash down to physically and mentally make space for new projects and hobbies. With always having knitting or crochet on the go, I found it hard to make to go to a different space in the house to draw. I hope in 2025 I can carve out time to learn [basic] drawing.
  • In 2025 I will be still saving for a house and hopefully buying one too. This is completely by myself, so I’m super proud and excited.
  • Last year I put a shout out for responses to questions as I was going to do a podcast. I didn’t get many responses, but I think there were too many questions at once. I have a plan for this. I also underestimated the time and headspace it would take. I’m constantly making or thinking about the next YouTube video, so I hope to get quite ahead then I can commit to a few podcast episodes. We shall see!
  • We need to grow LMDS. This means more technical and social research. I love to make videos on the things I enjoy and as creatives, we naturally look for things that haven’t been done before. Unfortunately, gaining traction on social media works the opposite: I might have to give in and make videos on what’s ‘trending’ and see the results.
  • I will continue to explore slower projects, such as 4ply jumpers and scrapbooking. I have made a start of letting go, by not feeling obliged to make an end of year garment haul video. I want to focus on slower growing projects, such as beautiful 4ply garments.
  • Bottom up jumper. I have the yarn from Norway and an Arne and Carlos pattern in mind.
  • I need to think about re-organising LMDS jobs around work better so I feel focussed when filming. By throwing in filming here and there (sometimes in my dinner hour), I feel distant from the project and not very camera ready.
  • I shall continue to motivate people to be sustainable.
  • LMDS has given me such a busy schedule, that I’m happier because my own company is purposeful.
  • Driving. I mentioned this goal in the previous post and I shall continue to work on this.
  • Continue to take feedback about LMDS.
  • Design more patterns. I have plans for cushions, leg warmers and whatever else is in my wool box will be a surprise for me as well as you.
  • Talk to more of my lovely audience. I have made some great connections with people from different countries and I certainly have learned a lot. Don’t be shy…pop into my inbox or comment on a post or video. I have learned a lot of good tips from comments on my YouTube channel, so I hope to learn more this year.

Well this certainly seems ambitious, but remember these are hopes for the year, not commitments. I will see how the year pans out and choose where to focus my energy.

Don’t forget to let us know your goals for 2025, I’d love to hear them.

Take care, Rachel G.
