New pattern alert!

I seriously enjoyed designing this headband, inspired by traditional Selbu patterns. It is called the Marie headband because I made one for my mum for Christmas. There is a long-running joke that I keep making things for everyone but her, so last Christmas (2023) she finally received an original knit.
She is so fussy about wool and anything I make, I show her in anticipation of hearing the comment: “ooh I couldn’t wear that”. I was determined to to fix her disdain towards wool. I purchased merino wool from Wolle Wien in Vienna, Austria (I must catch up with a travel blog!). It is scrumptiously squishy and not an itchy fibre in sight. I haven’t worked with merino much at all, so I was getting giddy at the amazing stitch definition this wool offers.
Anyway, she loved her headband (magenta and grey) and said that it is perfect for walks because she doesn’t get too hot, like in a hat, and the headband can easily fit into her pocket. This is also why I am a convert to headbands at the moment.

Stranded colour work really locks in head and proves double thickness, so I promise this accessory will keep you warm! We have had a lot of strong winds here in the UK, so it has saved my little ears from hurting.
As always, I can’t wait to see what colours and yarns you use! The Marie Headband is available on Ravelry (digital) and Etsy (digital and print-worldwide postage).
Take care, Rachel G x
