Christmas 2023

I hope you have had a relaxing festive break. I have been fortunate enough to have lots of family visiting from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day, but I am having serious crafting withdrawal. I am back to my day job today, but after work I will relax quietly, probably with some mitten knitting and certainly with some chocolate.

I don’t typically like discussing gifts, however, I don’t think sharing my crafty ones would be in bad taste.

I had asked for the Appleton’s Agatha Christie tapestry kit (assuming I had been good all year!). I enjoy the chart being printed on the canvass, so it’s more colouring with wool, than following a chart and concentrating. When I showed my friends, it was so not to their taste, but I bloody love it. I always find it interesting what does and doesn’t appeal to people.

I was happy to receive my fabric and haberdashery which mum and I picked up in Fabrix in Lancaster: blog here. I also got the book on Boro and Sashiko I was after – my next post will be on my goals for next year so stay tuned for slow stitching!

Mum very kindly got me some surprise crafty presents, which was very thoughtful of her. In March next year, I am going to Latvia to check out their knitting styles, specifically mittens. Mum said she peeked at my shelf to see if I had any books on it (mortified she’s seen even a part of my craft stash!). The book is lovely and will involve three colours to a row, which I’ve never done. Perhaps we need a brew and a review on this one! What surprised me further was that she had sneakily phoned a wool shop we went to previously in Lancaster to order some wool to go with it. So thank you very much Northern Yarn for helping my mum! I was so surprised as well as thrilled.

Then, I opened a lovely wool kit from Wool Couture. I think I will enjoy working with the materials in this box. And finally, how cute is this sheep mum got me from Etsy!? Although I think he looks slightly maniacal with the blazing fire behind.

It was time for mum to receive some crafty gifts form her friends! She is a fantastic and patient cross stitcher, however, she is excited to try some other crafts in the kits she received. This might only resonate with our UK audience, but how bloody fantastic is this!? A Cuthbert Catepillar crochet kit from Aldi. The next image is a wonderful embroidered cushion kit she received.

I hope you enjoyed this little blog. I will get started on the next one, where I reflect on my crafting goals of this year and if I have stuck to them! Remember to relax…Tonight there is a new Agatha Christie television adaptation, which I will be watching whilst tucking into my tapestry of the lady herself.

Take care, Rachel G x
