Get started on your sewing machine with this super easy patchwork cushion project. I designed this to have no fastenings or need to remember to leave a gap for turning; the cushion features a fold over back. You will need stuffing or a 30cm/15″ cushion pad, so this project is a lovely size for a beginner, but can easily be adapted with extra squares to increase the size.
This project has a special place in my heart because one of my first creations on my mum’s sewing machine was a 9 patch cushion. For the Little Miss Drop Stitch version, I have also included instructions to jazz it up with pom pom trimming.
First of all, there is a step by step tutorial on YouTube. For fuss-free cutting, print off the templates below. The first file is A3 and the second is A4, the latter you will need to stick the sheets together. Here is a video for how to do this.
We can’t wait to see what you make, whether it be using up your scraps or a memory pillow with sentimental fabrics. Do share your makes with us either via email or socials.
